On June 6 2025, thirteen EU Member States pledged common actions to be taken by the European Commission due to the growing number of GNSS interference events in Europe.
In their joint letter, the ministers note that, since 2022, GNSS interference, including jamming and spoofing, has been increasingly observed in Baltic Sea Region airspace, posing risks to civil aviation and maritime navigation. They call on stakeholders to address nine action points. The measures most closely aligned with NAVISP’s vision are:
- “Reassess the current reliance on GNSS-based navigation and develop resilient Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) services by deploying alternative or complementary systems”.
- “Accelerate the deployment of interference resistant GNSS services.”
- “Promote industry-manufacturer collaboration for mitigation tools and updates”.
- “Draw the attention of critical infrastructure operators”
NAVISP has already been taking concrete activities with industrial European partners since 2017, in concert with the programme Participating States, addressing GNSS Resilience, alternative PNT and disruptive technologies that will shape the next decades of PNT.
NAVISP will continue working hand-in-hand with industry to advance PNT innovations, reinforcing Europe’s critical infrastructure with ever-more resilient and trusted PNT services.
